原來兩千多年前他說過這樣的一句話

All paid jobs absorb and degrade the mind.

Asok the intern

From Dilbert's "the Characters": Asok, pronounced ah-shook, was introduced to satisfy the hordes of interns who wrote to request their own character. Asok is brilliant, but as an intern he is immensely naive about the cruelties and politics of the business world. His name is a common one in India (but usually spelled Ashok).

And now, how can *I* set my priorities?

"The quality of work is more important than life"

Except from an article from Daily Telegraph

China calls for the ultimate sacrifice from its Olympics workforce
By Peter Simpson in Beijing

Among the many slogans hung around the huge Olympic Village to spur on the 2,000-plus workforce is a banner proclaiming: "The quality of work is more important than life". The blue and white sign was hidden from public view during a recent visit by foreign journalists.

It appears that the harsh Orwellian language of the slogan, with echoes of the darker days of China's communist past, is being followed a little too closely, as the city rushes to be ready for the Olympics. According to the Construction Ministry, there have been 49 deaths in Beijing's building industry this year.

...

Patrick Poon, of China Labour Bulletin [...] said most construction companies cover up occupational deaths or serious injuries: "Only between five and 10 per cent of workplace accidents are officially reported."
In 2004, there were 3833 accidents Hong Kong in the construction industy, in which 17 people died.

"Is work-life insanity a global imperative?"

Regarding the new French Labour law, Keith Hammonds said in Fast Company blog

I think the French are doomed; you can't just stick your head in the sand and hope the rest of the world will go away. But I also wonder: Does the crush of the global economy--the threat of competition from lower-cost nations that can do what we do just as well, or better--inevitably require us to work like maniacs, increasingly harder and longer? That attitude has become baked into the American mindset--or at least, the management mindset. But is it really the only way to compete?

My Job Dissatisfaction Level

Your Job Dissatisfaction Level is 59%

Well, you don't have the worst job in the world, but it's not great. And don't worry, you're not the problem - your company is. Start looking around for another job, even if you're not totally fed up. Because in time, you're going to be dying to quit!

Should You Quit Your Job?

I am only 59% dissatisfied with my job? I was thinking 95%.

"We grow old because we stop playing."

Doug Sundheim said at the FC Now blog: "The quickest way to grow old is to take yourself too seriously."

I am not sure if he is telling us to work less or enjoy our work, or both? Anyway it is probably a good read.

Breakaway, Thankful
LUNA SEA 的IMAGE, STYLE, SHINE, LUNACY
System of a Down 的Hypnotize
Anna and the King, Chocolat, Corpse Bride, Finding Neverland, Girl with a Pearl Earring, School of Rock 的soundtrack
黒夢 的FAKE STAR

The office might be bad for your health

A Fast Company magazine article by Drew Armstrong says that "employees who felt their supervisors treated them fairly had a 30 percent lower risk of heart disease". Also, Angus Loten revealed to us that a noisy workplace might be dangerous to our health. "A loud workplace can raise the risk of heart attack for men by nearly a third," and "ambient city noises alone, like commuter traffic or air conditioners, may also boost the risk for both sexes -- three-fold for women and up to 50% for men."

Terrible, is it not?

Do you do things right?

Recent events often remind me to an old story from Fast Company magazine. It talked about the reason why LEGO® failed in the 21st century, but as usual, my brain, being a renegade, have a different impression of the story.

Godtfred Kirk Christenson said, "If we do all things right, the profit will come." From the writer's perspective, what was right 50 years ago is probably no longer valid now. The society is constantly changing, so one must constantly revise her strategies, or she will face defeats like Lego did in the late '90s. However we can always read things from another angle. This can probably tell us why some industries never make a big profit: If you intentionally or unintentionally rip off customers, and hope that they do not notice or complain, you deserve bad profitability. Talking about profit, revenue, or market place will not bring you to victory. It will only lead you to the end of it.

It is up to you to discover what the legacy of this danish company could tell us. To the original article: Why Can't Lego Click?
